One of My Concerns After Spending Time in Diablo 4 Season 1

I understand that there’s a lot of criticism surrounding the game. In my opinion, the core of the game is solid, but there are certain aspects I’ve encountered, as well as points raised by others, that contribute to a somewhat lackluster experience.

During the level range of 50-60, I found that I was still under-leveled for World Tier 4 (WT4), and the gear upgrades I stumbled upon were relatively scarce. Reluctant to invest precious resources into gear that would soon become subpar upon obtaining ancestral gear, I realized the current state of the gear system needs a significant overhaul.

As a central element of the genre, the current gear system falls short in delivering a satisfying experience. In my opinion, there should be a continuous incentive for progression. While I acknowledge that Diablo 4 isn’t an MMO, I believe incorporating certain aspects from games like World of Warcraft could enhance the overall gameplay.

Here are some potential ideas:

  • Implement a Linear Item Level (ILvl) Progression Tied to Zones: Establish a clear ILvl progression tied to different zones, with Sacred gear starting in Tier 3 (T3) and becoming more prevalent in “mid-game” activities such as Helltides, Whispers, and Nightmare (NM) Dungeons up to level 50. Beyond level 50, NM dungeons could offer viable higher-level Sacred gear, preparing players for WT4.
  • Extend This Pattern into WT4: Maintain this pattern of progression in WT4 until around level 80, allowing players to reasonably acquire a set of ancestral gear at ILvl 800 by the time they reach level 80.
  • Rework ILvl Progression from 80-100: Transition into a linear ILvl progression from 800-900 with opportunities for Ancestral gear drops.

The aim should be to provide players with a continuous sense of progression and achievement. As someone previously mentioned, certain events and opportunities within the game can feel uninspiring.

To address this, some potential improvements could include:

  • Offering more “positive” Sigil drops from Whispers, with affixes that guarantee favorable outcomes for players, making the activity more rewarding.
  • Revising gear aspects to make OBOL Gambling more relevant, possibly incorporating a chance for them to drop from World Events.

By assigning more deliberate purpose to various aspects of the game, it would create a more engaging experience. Currently, there are noticeable gaps where the gameplay lacks satisfaction or rewards.
